Today we're visiting Wernigerode, a town in the district of Harz, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The contains several interesting Gothic buildings, including a town hall with a timber facade from 1498 (the building on the left in this puzzle). The town was first mentioned in the records in 1121 in connexion with Count Adalbert of Haimar. On 17 April 1229 the settlement was granted town rights. Wernigerode was the capital of the medieval County of Wernigerode and Stolberg-Wernigerode. In 1815, after the Napoleonic Wars, it became part of the Prussian Province of Saxony.
